Avian Influenza Virus

hedwig_the_owl, at Living the Scientific Life, provides a comprehensive but accessible introduction to the biology of influenza. In the second fourth of what I hope to be a long series, Avian Influenza and the 'War on Birds', H_t_O makes the case for improving poultry farming methods and against the extermination of “wild, migratory and exotic pet birds” in efforts to contain the avian influenza virus.

{update: 03/31/05, 9:23 am} H_t_O directs us to 2 earlier posts on this topic:

Thanks for noticing! I actually have four essays about avian influenza now. In addition to the two that you mention, I also have Public confusion surrounding influenza and Is avian influenza THAT deadly?

More essays about avian influenza are on the way, as are essays about prion diseases. (well, and a dinosaur essay and a few surprises, too).
