You’ll have to excuse me, I seem to have misplaced this past week. It’s Friday and I haven’t run a lick. Anyway, 8 miles today at a steady jog. My left calf is very tight. It feels like I’ve got knots tied on the ends the muscle. When I got home, I rolled it out with a softball. Now it’s just generally sore all over. We’ll see how it feels in the morning.

I muddled through 63.2 miles for March averaging between 3 and 4 days running per week. The average run was just less than 5 ¾ miles at low to moderate intensity. C minus, maybe a C. A problem with my lack of consistency is that I’m putting on pounds rather than taking them off. The minimal increase in exercise has maximally spiked my appetite. That’s not a good thing. Those who know me can attest to my poorly developed satiation governor. Eating out is fun. All you can eat buffets, more so. Today, for example, I had my own little Greek fest. I had lunch with a friend, Jamaican not Greek. Warm pita bread with paprika dressed yogurt dipping sauce, salad with feta cheese, beef kebobs over rice pilaf and two glasses of a Chianti Ruffino for lunch. For dinner I had leftovers. Yesterday, I roasted a boneless leg of lamb. I marinated the roast in olive oil, lemon juice, soy sauce, garlic and herbs, then roasted it for 2 hours at 325º F to an internal temperature of ~140º F. I let the roast rest for 10 minutes, internal temperature got to 148º F, while I made gravy. I added onion, garlic, half a stick of butter and flour to make a roux then vinegar, lemon juice and stock to deglaze the pan. Thinly sliced lamb was placed over a bed of rice. Gravy, like my politics, was liberal. A minor tribute to the calorie-counting god, I only drank seltzer.

So, the plan for April is to bring up the weekly average to over 35 miles spread over 4 to 5 days. It’s still too early to have Timex along for the runs, but I do want to make it out to different venues. There is a nearby state park that provides the only accessible hill workout. I think the middle of the month might be a good time to get out there. I’m also mulling over some NYRRC events that I can use as training runs. This post gets cross-indexed, no?

H_t_O, or if you prefer GrrlScientist,

A good place for the occasional virtual food indulgence is Profgrrrrl’s, Playing School. If you scroll down to the bottom of her page, her left sidebar has a section for foodies like us. For instance:

Shrimp and Fennel in Hot Garlic Sauce / Savory Beet Soup

Take care.

Fortunately I had just finished my (5-point) raisin bran with skim when I read your sacrificial-lamb post (I had also fortunately completed a hungover 4-miler in Central Park a short time before that).

If I had a point with this comment, it would be something along the lines of "ever think of weight watchers?" You would probably get where you want to be in two months. Cult-like? Sure. Does it work? You bet.
